Nikita like many who enter the world of martial arts grew up watching greats like Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee as a child and was amazed how strong, fast, and athletic they were. Nikita dreamed of one day being just like them.
As a young girl there were not many women in the martial arts world to look up to as role models for young girls, so Nikita was excited when she found the China O'Brien movies, starring Cynthia Rothrock, a world karate champion in forms and weapons.
Seeing an empowering woman like Cynthia inspired Nikita in many ways, and though Nikita didn't start studying Taekwondo until she was in her late 20's, she always felt that the art was in her mind and spirit, as if she was meant to do this all her life.
Nikita is currently training in Korean Taekwondo, the art of the powerful punch and kick. The kicks and punches
can be deadly, but that's not all that Taekwondo encompasses. Taekwondo is about respect, integrity, self-control, and determination among many other characteristics.
Nikita provides a woman's perspective for those thinking about entering Taekwondo or who have recently entered. Nikita recently earned her 5th belt, a purple belt, and is about half way through her training. She plans on earning her Black belt in 2014. Currently Nikita is training for her first Taekwondo tournament, in which she will be competing in the Forms category.
Nikita is currently living in the heart of New England. During the day she oversees a e-learning support team, and trains on her weekends and nights. When she is not training or writing about Taekwondo, she loves playing basketball, traveling, painting, and baking.
